To Cuba and Guáimaro what happened on April 10, 1869 in the small village has the thickness of a momentous historical and founder event in the history of the Cuban nation, it is also the highest flight of local events, it is the glow that clean illuminates the matriaguaimareña . The Constituent Assembly of 1869 is history and rush of the identity of its inhabitants.
It is a generality to match a historical event with a calendar date, for example, the rise of the Demajagua is identified with October 10th, however , what day of the week was it, exactly what time did Cespedes rule? What happened then in other daytimes? How did climate behave? , These and other everyday ingredients are almost always left out of the bizarre historical analysis, to amend the homogenizing generality, the proposed use of these lines as a hypothesis, is to place the Constituent Assembly and the actions of its protagonists in the everydayness of Guáimaro in 1869 when the town was a small village in the jurisdiction of Port au Prince which according to Francisco Arredondo and Miranda " This beautiful town had a charming glance".
The Constituent Assembly had two work sessions, the first section was secret with the exclusive presence of elected representatives who were 15 between East , Las Villas and El Camagüey , it was April 10, 1869, the day agreed for the conclave, that day was Saturday it was the day of the week returning to the villages of the huntsmen jurisdiction of the estates and savannas during the week grazing herds , milking and molded cheeses of the region. Although the meeting was held on Saturday, It was told that the night of that Friday, April 9th was considered as a long one in the villa and in the houses where the patriots and their families were received no one barely slept, dawned a cool clear day and it seemed that the clear sky was announcing the transparency of the national event.
At eight in the morning and 15 representatives gathered in a house located in the then Prince Street today Martí street in the corner to General Manzano, Maximo Gomez street at prsent almost in the same place in which the restaurant Taurino is located at present, there it was elected the president of the Assembly, that responsibility fell to Carlos Manuel de Céspedes as well as secretaries counting on Ignacio Agramonte and Antonio Zambrana , these lawyers were tasked to draft the Constitution and about ten in the morning that session was finished by its president Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and summoned for the next session at four in the afternoon.
When representatives were preparing to leave the house where they had met for the initial meeting , the patriot José María García guaimareño approaches Céspedes in his capacity as chairman of the meetings and offers his house, large, spacious and comfortable to meet in conclave evening , the house offered was located on Calle Las Damas, Constitución Street at present, in the same place where today stands the General Municipal Museum , Carlos Manuel de Céspedes accepts and the first representatives to occupy in the house of Assembly were Ignacio Agramonte and Antonio Zambrana there drafted the Constitution with its 29 articles, it was close to noon when the two tribunes called off the request.
The house of José María García before four p.m. changed its inner face , it was placed a table in the center for the presidency and its ends two chairs for the secretaries and both sides face the head table chairs grilles representatives , the windows were open and protected by " native woods bars " that opened the portal wide and pitchforks where some people thronged to listen , support or disprove what was discussed , it was for the people of Cuba an unprecedented form of democratic participation. At four p.m. they again met with 15 representatives and their chosen table and the draft constitution drawn up and thus began the discussion, each agreement was quickly brought to the people assembled in the public square or weapons Constitution Park today , in that square when the news of the adoption of the Constitution in a small dais mambisa built there turned up the slave poet Antonio Fría and improvised a sonnet which he entitled " Diez de Abril " and that was the first tribute to this important event in the history of Cuba .
The session lasted until eight in the evening when darkness was about to close the villa , representatives fanned out several houses in the village, some went to Francisco Sánchez Betancourt table that as also offered by Ana Betancourt and Ignacio Mora or the house occupied by the family of Manuel de Quesada , that was another night of parties and celebrations in the village of Guáimaro that inevitably entered that way in the history of the nation.
