Odrisleysis Peguero del Sol, is a young guaimareña that keeps in her memory book, the satisfaction of having represented Cuba at the Pan American Games, Toronto 2015.
On a visit to her home in the People's Council of Martí, located 15 kilometers from Guaimaro, the athlete, member of the female baseball team, was able to give us a picture and share with us the beautiful experience on an interview.
Reporter: What experiences did you gain in your future life as an athlete having participated in the most important competitive event at continental level?
Odrisleysis: The best. To represent my country in a lid of this magnitude meant a commitment that I assumed with the characteristic energy of young Cubans. Being part of the team, following each order of the coach, answer with discipline, sharing and making new friends, all these realities helped me to much more establish myself in the discipline that I love. Although we did not reach medals, I felt immensely proud to participate as you said in your question, the most important competitive event at continental level.
R: What went wrong and what does the team need to improve to reach higher rungs on next events?
O: The trainings were intense. Many exercises, lots of practice, no matter the heat, the excitement showered our souls and we were giants in the field. Motivation and expectation took possession of all the girls like me, they participated for the first time in a contest of this magnitude. What really failed it was the lack of games with teams of other nations. To compete is the key word to win on the ground and strengthen the quality of the players.
R: How do you feel after being back in Cuba, along with family and friends?
O: Imagine. Cuba is my greatest and most precious medal, my family and friends, my greatest treasure, my people, to my satisfaction. As you can see I'm not the only Panamerican, also my family is. The Games in Toronto showed me that there is much to be prepared everyday.
R: Before your answer, one question arises, what will be the priority of Odrisleysis from now?
O: Saying goodbye to the dream and welcome back to the baseball field. I aspire to be recognized, that the team wins and one day not too far, in my neck I would carry the Medal of champion. I know that much is left for me to be done, but I'm not satisfied with the performance, I declare myself happy because I have brought to my country the most valuable prize, the dignity, here I am and now and let me assure you that I will be playing ball for a while.
