The policy of the United States towards Cuba is intensified by the irrational extraterritorial measures implemented by the administration of President Donald Trump, who activated on May 2 the title III of the Helms-Burton Act, with the objective of suffocating even more the Cuban economy and curb the development of foreign investment.
At present, the power groups close to the US president have promoted greater aggressiveness in the language that appears in the law and its application is linked to the solidarity of Cuba with Venezuela, in line with the return of the Monroe Doctrine.
The claims of properties that so much occupy Helms-Burton are actually a pretext because this legal body that codified the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba seeks to put enough obstacles so that an improvement in bilateral relations would not be possible.
The characteristics of the figures that hold the reins of Washington's diplomacy, including Mike Pompeo, constitute some of the causes of the increase in hostility against Cuba and the opposition to all the agreements reached during the administration of Barack Obama.
However, in 1997 the National Assembly of Popular Power approved the Law of Reaffirmation of Cuban Dignity and Sovereignty, which leaves Helms-Burton without effect and expresses the rejection of the Cuban people to this extraterritorial law.
With the purpose of continuing to build a socialist society and counteracting the effects of this hostile policy of the United States towards Cuba, the Guaimareans implement strategies aimed at guaranteeing the increase of local productions to contribute to the substitution of imports and also raise the lines of the economy that constitute a source of income to the country, through exports.
We must all be aware that progress will always depend, to a large extent, on the ability to produce, save and build a future of progress.
