Santiago de Chile, Aug 10.- The Brazilian film Aquarius is remarkable, and being starred by Sonia Braga conquers ovations.
However, it has many more qualities that will be appreciated at the Santiago International Film Festival (Sanfic 12).
The film is the newcomer to the Chilean event in this capital to take place from August 23rd to 28th and joins the section Masters of Cinema, a privilege for the filmaker Kleber Mendonca Filho.
Set in the beautiful city of Recife, it offers the opportunity to Braga to be placed in the place of honor she deserves.
The critics fell in love with the role of Braga, this time as a 65 year old former musical commentator who refuses to sell her apartment under the pressure of a company. It is a lovely reflection on the elderly.
Aquarius is added to the nearly 100 national and international titles to be shown in Sanfic 12. It was also a huge success at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
The film will be released in Chile on August 27th after being also shown at the festivals in Munich and Karlovy Vary.
Tomorrow will be launched in this capital the film Neruda, with Gael Garcia Bernal and Luis Gnecco, by filmaker Pablo Larrain.
It shows a chapter in the career of the poet and leftist politician in his years of hiding, which promises great reception from the public in the famous southern country, where Pablo Neruda is an icon.
Masters of Cinema, one of the great bets of Sanfic 12 will have the presence of another diva of cinema, the French Isabelle Huppert, in the film Elle, by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven.
Elle had its world premiere at the annual Cannes Film Festival, on the Cote de Azur of France, where Isabelle Huppert had once again the opportunity to distinguish herself.
It is a psychological thriller about a woman (Huppert) raped at her own home who seeks revenge, and it was received with very good reviews from critics.
For the international competition, there is already a pretty solid bet, The embrace of the snake, by Colombian Ciro Guerra, which recently swept the Platinum Awards and recently triumphed in numerous festivals around the world.
As if there were missing ingredients, the event will have the presence of two US special guests, actor Danny Glover and scriptwriter and director Paul Schrader.
