Diaz-Canel Assesses Preparations for Havana's 500th Anniversary. Taken from Prensa LatinaHavana, Jun 21.- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Thursday assessed the preparations to celebrate Havana's 500th anniversary in November.

At a meeting of the governmental support group in Havana, also attended by the speaker of the People's Power National Assembly (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, Diaz-Canel learned about the actions being taken to restore and maintain the Cuban capital.

According to local television, a group of historic, recreational, cultural and sports events will be held in Havana during the summer to celebrate the city's anniversary.

They include the commemoration of the Day of National Rebelliousness (July 26), the Havana Fair, a special edition of the Routes and Walks project promoted by the Office of the City Historian, the Arte en La Rampa Fair and the Havana carnival, the report said.

Participants at the meeting reviewed the restoration of the Coppelia ice-cream parlor, which will be reopened in the next few days.

In that regard, Diaz-Canel called to offer good services at that facility.

According to Cuban television, provincial authorities announced the events with which the village of San Cristobal de La Habana will celebrate its 500 years in November, with participation of several world-renowned personalities.
