China Will Ban Smoking in Public Places Throughout the Country.Beijing, Nov 24.- Smoking in public places will be banned legally throughout the country when a regulation is enacted by the end of the year on the subject, informed the National Health Commission and Family Planning of China.

The measure, still in legislative stage, appeared during the 9th World Conference of Health Promotion, celebrated in the eastern city of Shanghai from Monday until today.

According to Mao Qun'an, official of the commission, it was agreed to ban by law smoking in public places because it is important for health and in this regard called non-smoking persons to learn to protect the environment without smoke in public places, based on the law.

He explained the Government has planned to expand public education on the evils of smoking and will promote legislative or fiscal measures to comply with the requisites demanded by the Frame Agreement f the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Control of Tobacco.

On the issue, the director general of WHO, Margaret Chan, praised the constant efforts of control over tobacco consumption in this nation and advocated for new advances in that crusade.

However, she considered that China still needs progress in this issue.
