WWF Reports 163 New Species in Mekong Region.Washington, Dec 20.- A group of 163 species, including nine amphibians and 14 reptiles, were discovered this year in the Mekong region, one of the areas with most biodiversity in the world, said a WWF report.

The Mekong, which goes down from the Tibet plateau, includes southwestern China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Burma, it hosts countless species of flora and fauna, and between 1997 and 2015 the specialists have described 2,409 of them in the area.

The report issued by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) includes a snake with rainbow-colored head a dragon-like horned lizard, as well as 11 fish, 126 plants and three mammals.

WWF warned of 'an unprecedented pressure' of development in the area, which threatens the survival of the natural sites that make it unique.
