New Geological Map of the Moon Created By Chinese Scientists.Beijing, Jan 6.- A new 1: 2.5 million scale geological map of the Moon is being created by Chinese scientists and university experts, according to today's reports.

Ouyang Ziyuan, the chief scientist in China's lunar exploration program, explained on Thursday that five universities and research institutes have put together standards for digital cartography and sketching of the moon's geological structure.

The map, 4.36 meters long by 2.2 meters wide, is expected to be completed by 2018 and published in 2020.

It will provide information on the geology, structure and types of rocks and will reflect the chronology of the evolution of the moon.

Chen Shengbo, a geologist at Jilin University in the Chinese north-eastern province of the same name and his research team, are in charge of designing a sketch of the lunar structure, just one part of the project.

He says that the map will clearly show the moon's geographical features such as the size, nature and structure of craters.
