United Nations, Jan 14.- The Finnish capital, Helsinki, will host a conference on the humanitarian situation in Syria on 23 and 24 January, a forum to launch a refugee aid plan for 2017 and 2018, confirmed today the UN.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the event will be attended by government representatives, UN agencies, donors and the private sector.
We hope the conference will address the priorities and challenges of assistance to victims of nearly six years of conflict in Syria, told reporters the office spokesman Jens Laerke in Geneva.
According to Laerke, the Helsinki forum will not only address the Syrian crisis, but also its regional impact.
The humanitarian situation in Syria causes a large number of events and debates in UN, mainly at the Security Council, an issue that Damascus claims to distance itself from manipulation and politization.
Bashar Jaafari, the ambassador of Syria in this cpaital, says that his government has guaranteed in all these years of conflict 80 percent of the aid provided to people affected by war.
Jaafari insists that if the West and its allies are really interested in helping the Syrian people, first thing would be to stop support to terrorism from outside and end the economic sanctions.
