Havana, May 27.- A day to honor voluntary blood donors will be held in this island from June 6th to 14th, Granma newspaper reported today.
The activities, organized by the Departments of Public Health and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), will be conducive to recognize the country's 330,000 donors, whose plasmas and platelets are also used in the production of medicines.
According to the report, due to the systematic fulfillment of the Blood Donation Program, Pinar del Rio, the island's westernmost province, was chosen as the most outstanding territory and will host the national activity, due to the work carried out in the hospitals of its 12 municipalities.
Thanks to the joint work of several organizations, the people in Pinar del Rio managed to be the best one in this activity, the head of Medical Specialties at the Ministry of Public Health, Luis Enrique Perez, said.
Cienfuegos, Holguin and the Isle of Youth Special Municipality are the most prominent territories, while Havana will receive a special recognition for achieving 100,000 donations during the year, he also stated.
