Bolivia's New Health System Stands out as Great Achievement. Taken from Prensa Latina.La Paz, May 30.- The Unified Health System in Bolivia is currently standing out as a great achievement, since it favors more than half of the population with no health insurance or economic conditions to be attend to the private sector.

'The most important state initiative our country has attained in all its republican and plurinational state is the implementation of the Unified Health System', according to the Minister of Health, Gabriela Montaño.

Montaño told that since March 1, a total of 2 525 907 patients, aged 5 and 59 years, were treated.

In this regard, she explained that 90 percent of health care in the first-level health facilities were ambulatory, and the main causes of healthcare at all levels were diseases such as acute rhinopharyngitis, lumbago, tonsillitis, diarrhea, cystitis, hypertension and conjunctivitis.

The Minister of Health also noted that so far, 50 percent of the highly sought-after goal in the attachment of beneficiaries to this initiative of the Government, with over two million registered, the largest number in El Alto, La Paz.

She highlighted, on the other hand, the improvement of health facilities with new equipment, infrastructure, human resources and medicines.

'We know that SUS is the biggest revolution for health system and will be implemented in an appropriate manner, as long as population defends its right,' Gabriela Montaño added.

This brand-new universal, free and quality healthcare system has been implemented nationwide since March 1, with a basic number of benefits and an initial budget that should be increased over time to improve equipment, infrastructure and human resources conditions.
