Bogota, Jun 4.- The Colombian Prosecutor's Office reported on Tuesday the arrest of 14 people who allegedly belong to a criminal drug trafficking network to the United States, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
This Office stated that the criminal gang was the link between the drug trafficking mob in Colombia and the cartels in Italy and Mexico.
The evidence obtained indicates that cocaine shipments were addressed to Costa Rica, Panama, the Bahamas, Jamaica and Mexico; countries from which the drug was then distributed to the United States, Canada, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Australia and several Asian states.
The arrests were carried out in Bogota, Medellin, Manizales, Valledupar and Santa Marta, among other large cities in Colombia.
Some of those arrested said they belonged to the Gulf Clan, the main gang of organized crime in the South American country.
Colombia is the main producer of cocaine on the planet. It is estimated that between 170,000 and 210,000 hectares of coca are planted in its territory.
