Havana, Sep 14.- The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) may decline to use Dorian's name for another hurricane, following the serious damage done to the Bahamas by the recent weather phenomenon.
However, Bahamians will not forget the disaster caused by this category five weather phenomenon, the highest on the Saffir-Simpson scale, which hit the country for almost three consecutive days with winds exceeding 200 kilometers per hour.
Dozens of deaths, more than two thousand missing, floods, oil spill, trees and downed poles, entire villages swept mostly in the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahamas, is a difficult scenario to ignore despite Dorian's possible exclusion from WMO hurricane name lists.
Desolation, sadness, uncertainty, panic and hopelessness are perhaps some feelings of the population of this country that is torn between the search for relatives, neighbors and friends and the rescue of some belongings to face the great misfortune.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, the devastation in this archipelago is unprecedented and extensive.
'We faced a hurricane (...) as we have never seen in the history of the Bahamas. It is probably the saddest day of my life, 'said Prime Minister Hubert Minnis, when Dorian's powerful winds still raged in his retreat from the archipelago'.
The head of Health, Duane Sands, warned in the context of the rescue of the first bodies that 'the number (of dead) will be amazing'.
Faced with such devastation, there were numerous signs of solidarity from the most diverse corners of the planet, both from agencies, agencies, government, cruise companies, airlines, and people in particular.
The United Nations Organization through its dependencies, the Caribbean Community, Venezuela, Cuba, the United States, Japan, and many others expressed their solidarity with the Bahamian people and government, expressed in the word and inputs to cushion the impact.
On September 11, Cuba sent a first shipment of humanitarian aid which, according to Raciel Proenza, deputy Director General of Economic Collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, gives 'the solidarity hug' to the Bahamian people and government.
Proenza assured that in the next few days a Cuban vessel with new supplies will arrive to that country, which corresponds to what was expressed by the president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, on Cuba's willingness to contribute to the recovery of the Caribbean nation.
He added that Cuba organized a medical brigade of the Henry Reeve contingent, created by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to deal with situations of epidemics, catastrophes and natural disasters, and is ready to leave as soon as the ongoing coordination between the parts.
Havana also offered the support of linemen from the Electric Union to help restore the energy service in the Bahamian archipelago and expressed willingness to provide a brigade equipped with chainsaws to clean up felled trees.
In the midst of this panorama, the school year began with the support of a group of Cuban teachers, members of the collaboration brigade, Félix Varela.
José Reinel García, representative of the Ministry of Education of Cuba in this nation, confirmed that 'even when the greatest impact was on the Abaco and Grand Bahamas islands, in the capital and elsewhere the strong winds and intense waters caused damage and Cuban brigades quickly turned to recovery, from the institutions, 'he said.
The 55 cooperators of the largest of the Antilles in the education sector also support, in the communities with classes, restoration of roofs, windows, collection of rubble and cleaning.
The Bahamas now begin its recovery: It may take months and years for the country to recover its usual life and routine rhythm, for houses to be lifted from the rubble, for ships to return to sea, for people to try forget the name Dorian.
Total insured and uninsured losses in the Bahamas amounted to seven billion dollars, including building and business interruptions, according to a preliminary estimate by Karen Clark & Co, a consultancy that offers risk management services and catastrophic models .
Minnis clarified that his government, along with international allies and partners, is leading the efforts to respond to the greatest natural disaster in the history of this country caused by Hurricane Dorian.
'As a government, we are completely focused on helping to restore the lives of the people of Abaco and Grand Bahama after this catastrophe,' he said in a manifesto to criticism of his administration's work.
