Taken from Prensa Latina.Washington, Sep 17.- The high temperatures recorded in the northern hemisphere this summer made it the second warmest in 140 years, scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) reported today.

According to experts, from June to August, which also marks the southern hemisphere winter, affected the Arctic sea ice cover by reducing it to the second smallest for the month on record.

The average global temperature in August was 0.9 degrees Celsius above that of the 20th century, the five warmest since 2014, experts noted.

The latest report issued by Noaa also revealed record figures reported in Europe, Africa and the Hawaii region with temperatures that place that month among the three warmest in history.
