Havana, Sep 20.- The Regional Earthquake Response Simulation Exercise, SIMEX 2019, concludes in Havana this Friday after a week of theoretical and practical preparations to face an event of this kind in the country.
Organized by the National Civil Defense General Staff, the Pan-American Health Organization and other institutions, the event saw participants from 17 countries who exchanged experiences on the measures to be taken in an emergency in different areas.
They learned how Cuban health and Civil Defense authorities coordinate assistance and also respond to the support provided by United Nations agencies, programs and funds accredited in the country.
In the case of the latter, reports indicate that these organizations analyze the situation after a possible earthquake is detected, and contact the government to be on alert to the needs and activate external support.
Cuba has participated in exercises of this kind in Costa Rica (2014), Chile (2015) and Colombia (2016), according to official sources.
