Guaimaro, Sept 4 .- La Victoria conga, from the capital of the municipality, won the first place among the three foreign congas participating in the carnival of Manzanillo, in Granma province, where the composer Dionisio Vitalio Ponce Ruiz stands out as the organizer and creative brain of these festivities.

In a tough battle with their counterparts from the provinces of Cienfuegos and Guantanamo, the 36 members of that popular traditional institution of amateurs made possible the success of the competition, during which the people and even their opponents acknowledged the unique tone, happiness and quality of their performances.

As a result of this fraternal musical carnival competition, The train of Guaimaro, name by which La Victoria conga is also known, took part from Thursday to Sunday at the different competitions, closing the parades and walks along with seven comparsas and floats from Manzanillo.

The local musicians, accompanied by the veteran and founding director of the group Papo Manreza, the musical and founding director Aludis Rivero, and their current leader Ricardo Rodriguez Selpa, lived unforgettable experiences and joys that extolled their self- esteem and prestige for five days.

They brought the Best Foreign Conga Award from those festivities, the certainty of the gift of new costumes for all members of the group and the invitation to take part in the coming Carnivals of Cienfuegos and Guantanamo.
