With the objective of guaranteeing food self-sufficiency in the Guaimaro Norte popular council, four usufructuaries were given four hectares of land located in the areas surrounding the community.
According to Alexei Hernández Fillor, delegate of Agriculture in this municipality, the strategy is implemented in all the towns of the territory, in order to take advantage of some existing idle lands, depending on the demand for food per capita.
According to investigations, each citizen should eat for a whole month, 15 pounds of viands, 10 of vegetables, three of grain and two of fruit.
According to Hernández Fillor, in this period other areas suitable for planting various crops around the community are analyzed, with the purpose of giving them in usufruct to 16 producers interested in assuming this important task.
Currently, Guaimaro Norte has 30 hectares ready for planting and around 50 in production, which contributes to supply the four agricultural markets of this popular council.
