The man who motivates the comment today declared himself a patriot a long ago, yes, like those who are in love with their land not only because of history, also by the smell that emanates from the soil wet by rain, by the greatness of people, because of the warmth of citizens because Desiderio Borroto Valdés constantly bequeaths wisdom, charisma and most important, love, a feeling that emanates through his veins as an inexhaustible source.
Guaimaro thanks him for every step, now a little more careful for the accumulated years, but steadfast as the oak because he knows that this, his city, which he comments a lot with national and foreign visitors, needs him in an essential way. Desiderio is the researcher who leaves nothing for himself and shares everything, the teacher of many, the exemplary father, the most beloved grandfather. He is also the professional that children, youngsters and adults come to when they want to delve into unforgettable events, those that motivate us to reaffirm: We are proud of Guaimaro!
Every morning he is seen with his Bolshevik cap, also witness of his hours of studies, of scrutinizing old papers, of interviewing the long-lived people who, like him, do not forget the memorable events that distinguish the homeland from the Cuban Constitution, Books and publications such as the Assembly of Guaimaro, an appointment of the independence warriors who just on April 10th, 1869 decided to meet to discuss the destinies of Cuba.
To know the historian of Guaimaro, rather than a privilege is a kind of life, born on February 11th, 1942 in Santa Maria estate, Majagua, a municipality in Ciego de Ávila, after two months, his parents Rodolfo Borroto Leyva and Enma Valdés Soto decided to move to the easternmost region of Camagüey, beautiful capital still named by many, like a dream village because this piece of dwell catches and is passionate, reason enough for Desiderio to choose to deepen its legends.
The protagonist of this writing is a graduate in History and Social Sciences, in his pages of life summarizes all the jobs and occupations he assumed with responsibility and sense of belonging. He was an agricultural worker, a military man, a worker from the National Bank of Cuba (BNC), a member of the agricultural youth squads; he worked in the Education Sector at the Municipal Statistics Center. He also held other functions as Chief of Maintenance; and with Capital letter stands out in his profile the condition of founder of the Historical Archive of Guaimaro, institution that welcomed him till he got retired.
Proud of representing the guild member of the National Union of Historians of Cuba in the territory, a nongovernmental social organization, which he leads with all will and courage, Desiderio Borroto Valdés expresses his satisfaction of having worked for 47 years, a long period to which he gave the best of himself to the nation that today and always inspires him for his human greatness, a deep conviction and faithful reflection of what José Martí, the most universal of Cubans, expressed: "Homeland is a community of interests, a unity of ends, a very sweet fusion and reliever of love and hope."
