Montevideo, Feb 11.- Uruguay will present nearly 2.000 books during the 25 International Book Fair of Havana, which opens today in Cuba with a significant presence of intellectuals and authorities from the South American country.
Among them are included the Vice President Raul Sendic, and Ministers Economy and Finance, and Education and Culture, Danilo Astori and Maria Julia Muñoz, respectively, informed today the Secretariat of Information of the Presidency on its website.
Muñoz will present the book by Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez, entitled 'The Chronicles of a bad friend', which tells stories of his life as a medical oncologist with several of his patients.
The Minister of Education and Culture highlighted the importance for Uruguay to be the guest of honor at this great literary event of global impact.
The official pavilion is named after the Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano (1940-2015).
Casa de las Américas will present the books 'De/sobre Mario Benedetti', 'Antologia de poesia', 'Poesias de amor hispanoamericanas', and 'Espejos. Una historia casi universal', the source said.
Besides Benedetti and Galeano, also will be honored the Uruguayan Daniel Chavarria, the outstanding translator and writer, who lives in Cuba since 1969 and winner in 2000 of the Casa de las Américas Prize for his novel 'El rojo en la pluma del loro'.
The pavilion 'Eduardo Galeano' will offer musical performances, literary works by leading Uruguayan writers, films, photography exhibitions, and a space dedicated to children.
Artistic activities will take place outside the premises of the Book Fair in halls and theaters of the city of Havana, and the literary proposal will include different literary genres like the novel, poetry, short stories, essays and children's literature.
The writers and journalists Mario Delgado Aparain, Fernando Butazzoni, Marcia Collazo, Ramiro Sanchiz, Rafael Courtoisie Monica Bottero, Guillermo Pellegrino, Damian Gonzalez Bertolino, Ignacio Martinez, Luis Marcelo Perez and the poet Luis Bravo are included in the Uruguayan delegation.
Artists, illustrators, actors and musicians, like Luis 'Tunda' Prada, Daniela Beracochea, Gabriel Calderon, Santiago Sanguinetti, Sergio Blanco, Fernando Cabrera, Malena Muyala, Cristina Garcia Banegas, Daniel 'Tatita' Marquez and Daniel Viglietti, are part of the Uruguayan delegation.
