Beijing, Jan 26.- Cuba has donated today a collection of books and educational materials with content about the life and work of the island's independence hero, José Martí, to the Cervantes Institute in Beijing, specializing in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.
Cuban ambassador here, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, made the delivery to the director of the institute, Irma González, during a tribute ceremony on occasion of the 165th birth anniversary of the thinker and revolutionary.
This is a collection of texts, including that of children's literature, The Golden Age; a multimedia program and an application for mobile phones with Martí's biography, articles, poetry and other works.
In statements to Prensa Latina, González thanked the gesture and stated that the donation will significantly enrich the digital and physical library of the Cervantes Institute, since its mission is to spread the culture and distinctive aspects of the Spanish-speaking countries.
He highlighted, especially, the mobile application because it will give the opportunity to transmit to a large number of users and students the vast work and career of the Cuban hero.
The tribute held today at the Cervantes Institute was attended by officials from the island, diplomats from many countries, intellectuals, students and Chinese friends.
Each moment of the ceremony was used to illustrate the wealth, transcendence and validity of the work of Martí, born in Havana on January 28, 1853.
