Havana, Jan 19.- Antonio Becali, the president of the Cuban Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) reiterated Wednesday that the main objective of Cuban sport is to keep the good result level, and remain in the first places among the best countries of the planet in every relevant sport competition.
In a meeting with the national press Becali explained that to strengthen the good result level, INDER decided to make some changes of executives in the National Commissions in some sports, some of them vital, such as athletics and baseball.
Regarding this, INDER High Performance Director Antonio Miranda reported that Agustin Abril is the new National Commissioner for athletics. While in baseball, former National Baseball Championship pitcher Yovany Aragon will temporarily take the post, until the end of the playoffs, but someone else will probably replace him in the coming days.
Antonio Miranda reported that the process now involves 9 national sport commissions and has not finished yet, so some other changes or replacements may take place.
In 2016, Cuba obtained five gold medals in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This let Cuba keep among the first 20 nations in the position list, but the contributing sports, on the contrary, were just two sports: wrestling and boxing.
The meeting with the press also included the inauguration of a pavilion showing the victories and successes of Cuban sport in the last decades in the exhibition site of Expocuba, outside the Cuban capital, in occasion of the 28th anniversary of Expocuba.
