Paris, Oct 2.- France's Sports Minister Laura Flessel has stressed the need to guarantee more safety in soccer stadiums after an accident in the city of Amiens where at least 29 people were wounded.
According to BFMTV Television Station, Flessel said that 'we will be firm in this issue because we must provide high security surveillance in soccer stadiums.'
During a match between Amiens and Lille Clubs held last night Television pictures showed dozens of Lille supporters falling on top of each other after a barrier at the Stade de la Licorne broke seconds after Lille scored in 15th minute of the local northern derby match.
Police sources said the total number of injuries were still to be determined, although a provisional count in a statement by local hospital services put the number at 29, including five seriously.
Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the main causes of the accident, about which the stadium security staff assured that the barrier was in perfect condition.
