
Buenos Aires, Oct 4.- Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay announced their joint candidature to host the 2030 World Cup, a step regarded as one more step to integration.
In a press round from the Casa Rosada (government house), Argentinean President Mauricio Macri, accompanied by his Paraguayan and Uruguayan counterparts, Horacio Cartes and Tabare Vazquez respectively, ratified the commitment to host such as important event.
'The region deserves to organize a World Cup,' Macri said.
'We are very happy and I think that if they give us the opportunity, we will make it to be great hosts, we will organize a great world cup because if there is anything of which we've got plenty in this region of the world, it is a passion for soccer, we will work to make it unforgettable,' added the Argentinean President.
Macri said that the proposal to organize this event came from his Uruguayan counterpart, something he accepted in less than 40 seconds and then Paraguay joined.
'It is a further step in the integration of our countries, 'said the Argentine Head of State after reiterating that this seeks not only to give rise to a passion shared by the three countries, also further strengthening and deepening the links that they have,
For its part the Uruguayan President stressed that they were working on the communion of these three countries that are deeply football fans to agree on the joint candidacy.
Macri said there will be 48 teams to compete, and it is hoped that Paraguay and Uruguay habilitate 2 or 3 stadiums, while Argentina will give around 6 or 7.
