The '19 de Noviembre ' Chess Cup had as scenario the Monte Oscuro Camping Site in this city, last weekend, as an annual competition that is carried out by the National Institute of Sport, Physical Culture and Recreation (INDER).
The Cup honors with its name a national anniversary: the birthday of the Cuban chess player and world champion José Raúl Capablanca. As a proof of his prestige, chess promises of several provinces attended the tournament, in particular children of school categories up to 12 years of age.
The small chess players of Guaimaro already broke hostilities, because in the face of the great challenge, the '19 de Noviembre 'Cup, their coaches and activists organized a base tournament, for four days.
The students of the category 11-12 years old, Betsy Galindo Peña, David Machado Arias and Andy Albo Blanco, all from the elementary school Joaquín de Agüero and Agüero, members of the second place winning team in the last provincial championship, measure talent and preparation.
Together with them, three other practitioners, chess fans in the community environment, are competing: the young people José Antonio Díaz Bermúdez, student of the Asamblea de Guáimaro Pre-University Institute, Yusbel Gómez Utra, student of the Levantamiento de Jucaral Polytechnic Institute and Mario Raúl Herrera del Toro.
At the end of the third round, this category reveals a close fight, since four players who share a pair of victories and a defeat each share the top of the tournament. The leaders are David Machado, Andy Albo, José Antonio Díaz and Yusbel Gómez.
The experienced professor Carlos González Labrada, considers these confrontations very useful to raise the competitive level of a team that must endorse the quality with which they win most of their bilateral meetings with other territories, and win valuable prizes in various competitions in recent years.
