Asuncion, Nov 25.- One of the historic football players in Paraguay, Angel Berni, passed away in this capital, local media reported today.
Berni made the national team that participated in the World Cup in Brazil in 1950 and that won the 1953 Americas Cup in Peru, where he scored four goals in seven games as a forward player.
His sports career began in the lower categories in the Olympia club in 1945 and he joined the first division in 1949.
He was drafted later by Colombia's Atletico Boca Juniors of Cali, Argentina's San Lorenzo of Almagro and Gimnasia y Esgrima of La Plata, and Spain's Real Betis.
Berni, who was also a professor in several institutions, died on Friday night at the age of 86.
