Apr, 2016.- 'April 15, 1961 ' was a normal day for Ismael Eduardo Espinosa Delgado, soldier from the Artillery School of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) in Ciudad Libertad, Havana. It was '5:00 a.m.' when they fulfilled the mission of unloading several trucks with weapons for the defense of the Revolution.
"Look Espinosa what beautiful stunts those planes make", those were the last words of the fellow who was by his side when the mercenary planes camouflaged with Cuban insignias began to attack young soldiers. There was no time to protect themselves from the munitions that reached the shoulder and head of Espinosa Delgado. Being injured, he headed for the dormitories to help evacuate the wounded from the criminal bombing and that´s when, to his surprise, he finds the lifeless body of soldier Eduardo Garcia Delgado, who was hit by a shell in the bathrooms and before dying he wrote with his blood the name of Fidel.
The impact of this event marked forever the life of Ismael. At his 81 years he still remembers as if it were today, that moment when he moved to the medical post the injured body of Garcia Delgado and recognizes how much heroism was demonstrated by those young people who began to ready to defend what had caused so much blood.
The people of Cuba showed its unconditional support to Fidel and the Revolution and in the burial of the victims of this abominable event was declared the socialist character of our revolutionary process.
Today, Ismael Eduardo Espinosa Delgado firmly maintains his principles to defend the Revolution from any trench. And as the National Poet of Cuba Nicolas Guillen said:
“Ya nadie habrá que pueda
parar su corazón unido y repartido.
No digáis que se ha ido:
su sangre numerosa junto a la Patria queda”.
