Agreement of the 11th Plenary Session of the Central Committee to postpone the holding of the 9th Party Congress

The members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, gathered this Saturday in their 11th Plenary Session, agreed to postpone the holding of the 9th Congress of the political organization, originally scheduled to take place in April 2026.

The proposal, made by the leader at the helm of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, was announced by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, through a letter read before the Plenary, which had been previously analyzed in a meeting of the Political Bureau.

In the letter, Raúl acknowledges the position of the head of state to defend and demand compliance with the principle that Party congresses should not be delayed and therefore must be held within the established timeframes, every five years, except in cases of force majeure.

However, the Army General warns that, based on the principle of always doing what is most beneficial to the Revolution, he considers it advisable to postpone the holding of the 9th Congress to a later date, and to dedicate from now on all the resources available in the country, as well as the effort and energy of the cadres of the Party, Government, and State, to solving current problems and to devote 2026 to recovering as much as possible.

Adopting this decision, Raúl emphasizes, should not be seen as a setback. It is a necessary and timely decision that will allow us to unify forces, improve the nation’s situation, and create conditions for a better and more fruitful Congress, which will consolidate, as our Constitution endorses, the construction of socialism and progress towards the communist society.

The members of the Central Committee unanimously approved this proposal, which will allow concentrating the efforts of all Cubans on the country’s recovery.
