Havana, July 29.- The upcoming Cuban television telenovela, Mujeres de café, has officially concluded its filming stage and is now moving into post-production, according to information released by the Cubavisión channel through its official social media profiles.
Directed by Ernesto Fiallo and co-directed by Rafael Noguera, the production will hit the screen with a story inspired by the eponymous novel by Artemisa writer Olga Montes Barrios, a work honored with the 2023 Matanzas City Foundation Award.
The new television proposal will consist of 63 episodes, each 45 minutes long, and will center on the lives of four sisters in the fictional town of Mango Bonito. The central conflict is triggered by Alexa's return to her hometown after completing her gender affirmation process—a situation that will test the community's prejudices and pave the way for themes such as diversity, female empowerment, and coexistence.
According to information shared by Cubavisión, Mujeres de café will set a precedent in national television by incorporating a transgender character into the main plot of a Cuban telenovela for the first time. Alexa will be portrayed by actress Yei Zubiaur.
The original soundtrack will be composed by musician Raúl Paz, while the locations chosen to recreate Mango Bonito include natural landscapes of Bahía Honda, Las Terrazas, and San Andrés, in the western part of the country.
With filming now complete, the production team is working on the editing and post-production stage, ahead of the premiere of a telenovela that aims to combine family drama with contemporary social conflicts.
