Havana.- The popular newspaper Sports Hochi highlighted that Cuban Liván Moinelo has the best lifetime ERA among pitchers with at least 500 innings pitched in Japanese baseball.
The Japanese publication confirms that with his excellent statistics, the left-handed pitcher from Pinar del Río surpasses the legendary Yoshinobu Yamamoto in this crucial pitching category.
Since the prestigious Japanese league adopted the current two-league system in 1950, no other pitcher has exceeded Moinelo's record of a 1.80 ERA and a .176 opponent batting average, accumulated over the 630 and one-third innings he has pitched so far.
In comparison, Yamamoto recorded a 1.82 ERA during the seven seasons he played with the Orix Buffaloes before making the jump to Major League Baseball in 2024, although he won many more individual awards than the Caribbean pitcher.
But the big difference between the two lies in the fact that Moinelo, whose professional baseball career in Japan also began in 2017, worked as a reliever during his first seven seasons, while Yamamoto was a starter from the beginning.
