Washington, May 26.- The United States "Hands Off Cuba" Committee, which currently comprises more than 50 organizations, unions, political groups, and personalities, reaffirmed its solidarity with the island amidst growing aggression from the Donald Trump administration.
Members of the solidarity collective in the Los Angeles area urged to halt plans for any action against the Caribbean nation and to keep support for the Cuban people visible during these times. "We are coordinating numerous rallies in various cities in defense of the Cuban people; it is time to give thanks for everything Cuba has done for the world," commented Mark Friedman.
Most Americans oppose a war by the United States against Cuba, just as they oppose the current war against Iran. "It depends on us to channel this sentiment, organize it, and give it a voice," the call emphasized.
Over the weekend, the pacifist group CodePink warned that President Trump is imprudently increasing tensions with Cuba and is preparing for eventual military action against the Caribbean country.
"We must stop this madness," the group said in a social media message. "Cubans—not the politicians in Washington, nor the hardliners in Miami—should decide the future of Cuba," it stated.
CodePink rejected the alleged accusation made by the Department of Justice against Cuban leader Raúl Castro "while (Trump) tightens the brutal blockade and prepares for an invasion."
The organization urged voters to contact their respective members of the United States Congress to vote 'Yes' on War Powers Resolutions to prevent unauthorized military action against Cuba.
This week, Democratic Senator from Arizona Rubén Gallego stated that Republicans would be attempting to involve the United States in another war, but this time against Cuba.
"We are seeing how Republicans are fabricating, before our very eyes, a reason for another regime-change war, this time in Cuba," the legislator wrote on his account on the social network X.
Gallego, along with his colleagues Tim Kaine (Virginia) and Adam Schiff (California), introduced a War Powers Resolution to block the use of United States Armed Forces in hostilities against Cuba, according to a press release published on the senator's official page.
During his 2024 election campaign, Trump reiterated that, if he won, he would keep the United States away from wars, even fighting for the Nobel Prize last year.
However, since his return to the White House, threats of expansion and interventionism have been setting the tone of his foreign policy agenda.
The U.S. aircraft carrier Nimitz was deployed to the Caribbean area, although Trump indicated, when asked by journalists a few days ago, that the deployment of the warship was not intended to intimidate Cuba.
