Program with profound humanism

The continuous supply of electricity to 76 children, adolescents, and young people, classified as patients who depend on this type of energy to live, is the purpose of the national program jointly developed by the Ministries of Public Health and Energy and Mines.

In the homes where these individuals live, accompanied by the family members who care for them, the installation of portable charging stations of 1,200 watts has begun, each accompanied by a solar panel of about 400 watts.

Acquired through Energoimport, the equipment, according to the survey conducted by Public Health authorities, takes into account patients with conditions including severe cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, tracheotomies, refractory epilepsy that is difficult to control, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, brain malformation, Down syndrome, and fibrosarcoma.

In Holguín, where recently three patients in urban and rural areas benefited, Fernando Hechavarría Pupo, director of the Renewable Energy Source Unit at the Electric Company of the province, responsible for installing the modules in this territory, stated that the reaction of the beneficiaries’ families upon receiving the equipment is deeply moving.

The profound humanitarian spirit of this program is also evident in the fact that the electric companies, owners of the portable stations and solar panels, charge only ten pesos monthly for their use.
