Camagüey.- Wrestler Yusek Montejo Rodríguez will be the only representative from Camagüey at the Deaflympics, which will take place in the Japanese city of Tokyo from November 15 to 26.
Montejo is part of the Cuban delegation that will be aiming to surpass the 21st place achieved in the previous edition in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, in 2022, where they won three gold medals and one silver.
The athlete from Agramonte will compete in the 86 kg division in freestyle wrestling and in the 87 kg division in Greco-Roman wrestling. He will be joined by Santiago de Cuba athletes Raúl Plutín (70 kg/63 kg) and Osmar Ortiz (125 kg/130 kg), under the guidance of coach Juan Humberto Suárez.
Cuba will also compete in athletics with ten participants, in judo with three, four in table tennis, and one in cycling.
Over eight editions, the island has accumulated a total of 37 medals (15 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze) and has participated continuously since its debut in Sofia in 1993.
