From January to August 2025, the Cuban Court System implemented a series of actions aimed at preventing and combating crimes associated with large livestock, according to information published on the website of the Supreme People's Court.
The strategy deployed across the country included training judges, addressing the concerns of farmers and leaders of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), participating in member meetings to address concerns and dissatisfaction, holding exemplary trials, and publishing articles on judicial proceedings.
Statistics from the period reflect the severity of the sanctions imposed: 96% of those tried were sanctioned, with 90.7% receiving imprisonment, 7.5% receiving alternative penalties, and 1.8% receiving fines. These sentences were supplemented with additional sanctions such as confiscation of assets, prohibition from leaving the country, and deprivation of rights.
In the corresponding cases, those responsible were sentenced to financially compensate the victims and those affected, totaling 17,937,056 pesos in national currency.
As part of the preventive strategy, 19 exemplary trials were held, with the majority of participants being farmers and residents of affected communities. At the same time, 117 training sessions were held for magistrates and judges on proceedings related to incidents involving livestock.
Interaction with the productive base included the participation of executives and judges in 185 ANAP member meetings, where topics related to the crime of cattle slaughter and meat trafficking were discussed. Additionally, 173 exchanges were held in communities most affected by these crimes.
The presidents of provincial and municipal courts participated in 56 assemblies of provincial councils, municipal assemblies of People's Power, and municipal administration councils, reporting on the adjudication of these cases and the implementation of criminal policy.
As part of the dissemination, 614 publications were published in national and regional media outlets and digital platforms, addressing the criminal response to these events, legal articles, and the results of the meetings held.
