Havana, January 16 – President Miguel Díaz-Canel today emphasized the anti-imperialist vocation of the Cuban people and warned about the importance of maintaining the unity of the nation in the face of threats.

During the second day of tribute to the 32 fallen combatants in Venezuela, the Head of State highlighted that the U.S. aggression confirms the predatory nature of imperialism.

“The Cuban people are not anti-imperialist by manual; imperialism made us anti-imperialist,” the president stated before the Anti-Imperialist Tribune.

“But not only Cuba; the world will become increasingly anti-imperialist as a result of this act against all international norms,” he said.

Díaz-Canel emphasized the historical relationship between unity and victory: “All the victories of the Cuban people are linked to the strength of unity. Every time patriotic forces were divided, we lost. Every time they united, we won.”

The president warned that the enemies of the nation understand this dynamic and “bet on breaking that unity.”

He noted that current threats resemble those of almost all U.S. administrations controlled by the so-called war hawks.

In his speech, Díaz-Canel highlighted how young Cubans have made viral on social media the anecdote about the “picúa” fish narrated by Fidel Castro, in which the historic leader faced an aggressive fish swimming straight toward him instead of backing away.

“That’s how we must act facing the empire, which is a picúa, piranha, shark, and vermin,” the president said. “But I insist and reiterate one fact: it is young Cubans who have made that video viral on social media.”

The president interpreted this phenomenon as a sign that new generations assimilate and project the teachings of the Revolution, keeping alive the tradition of resistance against external aggressions.
