The Minister of Timor-Leste Recognizes the Quality of Cuban Medicine

Havana, Dec. 9 — The Minister of Health of Timor Leste, Élia dos Reis Amaral, highlighted the quality of Cuban professionals in that sector during the celebration of Latin American Medicine Day in Dili, it was reported today.

According to a notification obtained by Prensa Latina, Reis Amaral was the main speaker at the event held at the Cuban embassy in that country with members of the Cuban medical brigade, on the occasion of the date.

During the event, the Minister "sent a message of thanks to her counterpart, Cuban Minister José Ángel Portal, while acknowledging the work carried out by the Cuban medical brigade as a result of the meeting between Commanders-in-Chief Fidel Castro and Xanana Gusmao in Kuala Lumpur."

She also took the opportunity to bid farewell to the current brigade leader, Sergio Rabell, and to welcome Dr. Andrés Villar, according to the text.

Additionally, the ambassador Alina Aldama recognized the important support of the Minister of Health so that the Cuban medical brigade could offer its services to the people of Timor.

"At the same time, she mentioned the 20th anniversary of the Higher School of Medicine; the conclusion of the mission of the Sports professors, who work alongside the doctors; and the completion of the Salsa Workshop with friends from Cuba," it states.

According to the information, the meeting was also attended by "the Sahrawi and Angolan ambassadors, directors of the national university and the Ministry of Health, as well as friends and students of the medical school."
