Havana, Dec. — Türkiye delivered three thousand humanitarian aid items to communities in eastern Cuba affected by Hurricane Melissa, as a demonstration of cooperation between the two peoples, reported the portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cubaminrex.
The assistance included kitchen kits, medical supplies, blankets, and electric generators, resources aimed at supporting the recovery of the affected families and strengthening the response to the damage caused by the meteorological event.
Cuban authorities expressed gratitude for the support provided, highlighting its positive impact on the relief and recovery efforts in the affected areas, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This gesture of solidarity reaffirmed the bonds of friendship and collaboration between Türkiye and Cuba, within the framework of diplomatic relations established in 1952 and consolidated through high-level official visits.
In February 2015, the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, made an official visit to Cuba, considered a significant moment in strengthening bilateral ties. Subsequently, ministerial exchanges took place in Ankara and Havana in 2017 and 2019.
More recently, in May 2024, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz held a meeting with Numan Kurtulmus, President of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, where the willingness of both nations to elevate their ties to a higher level was underscored.
Bilateral cooperation spans sectors such as foreign policy, culture, education, trade, and international solidarity, reflecting the readiness of both governments to strengthen their historic friendship.
This delivery of humanitarian aid by Türkiye constitutes a direct example of that collaboration, with immediate impact on the recovery of vulnerable communities and on the consolidation of Cuba’s international cooperation.
