"Tourist activities resume in Holguín"

A collective effort among workers, tourists, and authorities has enabled the rapid recovery of the tourist destination Holguín following Hurricane Melissa.

The tourist area of Guardalavaca today shows its cleanest and most welcoming face after an intense day of sanitation and recovery, following the devastating hydrometeorological event along the northern coast of the province. With restored beaches and facilities in optimal condition, the destination is ready to welcome the first groups of the high winter season starting this November, marking a successful restart of operations.

The response to nature's onslaught was immediate and exemplary. Guardalavaca beach, one of Cuba's natural gems, underwent meticulous cleaning to remove debris and garbage deposited by winds and high waves. In a remarkable display of unity, employees from all areas, including gardeners and kitchen staff, joined the effort.

“We stayed there for a week, everyone working as a team, collecting all the waste, supporting the recovery of the areas in general. It was hard work, but it shows our team's commitment to this destination,” said Luis Ángel Fernández, a worker at the Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Guardalavaca Hotel.

Fortunately, damage to hotel infrastructure was minimal. This allowed hotels like Gran Muthu Almirante Beach to declare themselves operational in record time. The forced pause was also used to carry out maintenance and improvement work that enhances the beauty of the area.

“In all the open areas, we did not receive significant damage. On the contrary, we have made some very good improvements to the outdoor areas, landscaping, our pool, and our beautiful beach,” expressed Rosalía Pupo, deputy director of Club Amigo Atlántico Hotel, who detailed the mobilization.

For her part, Yuset Vargas, delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Holguín, emphasized the preparations for the winter tourist season: “We have ensured that our season begins with full confidence that the territory is ready to welcome our clients with the same joy, strength, and beauty that characterize us.”

The favorable situation was confirmed during a tour by the highest authorities of the Provincial Defense Council, who personally verified the conditions of Guardalavaca for the resumption of the summer stage.

Tourists Who Become Family

A story that highlights the human warmth of the destination occurred at Brisas Guardalavaca hotel, which maintained its service during the meteorological phenomenon for tourists who chose not to evacuate. These guests showed solidarity with the workers, integrating into the large hotel family.

This is the case of Erico Deriu, an Italian tourist who has become a regular visitor: “It was an experience that, rather than scaring us, brought us together. The staff is incredible; they are like family. We wanted to stay and help in any way we could. Without a doubt, this demonstrates the spirit of resilience and the warmth of Cuba.”

With no significant damage and a natural environment and facilities not only restored but improved, Guardalavaca resumes its operations with optimism. This important destination in eastern Cuba thus confirms that it is ready to once again establish itself as a magnet for international visitors, offering the same beauty, now enhanced by the work and dedication of its people.

The Holguín Tourist Pole, with Guardalavaca as its emblem, constitutes a strategic pillar for the Cuban economy as one of the main sources of foreign currency income for the country.
