Holguín, Nov. 12 - In response to the prolonged rains in recent hours, which are causing rivers to rise in the eastern province of Holguín, Municipal Defense Councils are prioritizing the swift evacuation of residents in low-lying areas.
In the municipality of Moa, about 200 kilometers from the provincial capital, around 260 residents from the Pedro Soto Alba neighborhood, known as La Ecrin, are being moved to safe locations due to rising levels of the Cabañas River, according to Camilo Velazco Petitón, director of the radio station La Voz del Níquel.

Additionally, monitoring of this waterway continues, as it is close to overflowing the access bridge to the Pedro Soto Alba Factory, reported the journalist.
In the municipality of Sagua de Tánamo, residents in low-lying areas near the river of the same name are also being evacuated, and door-to-door notices are being provided to reduce risks caused by soil saturation.

According to the Meteorology Institute, weather conditions are associated with a cold front affecting the area, so cloudy skies, showers, and thunderstorms will continue in the coming hours.
Civil Defense urges the population to comply with all established measures, to stay away from swollen rivers and low-lying areas, and to prioritize life as the fundamental good of human beings. (Text and photos: ACN)
