Satisfied Cuban Baseball Player After Joining National Team

Matanzas, Cuba, Nov 7.- A feeling of satisfaction motivates baseball player Francisco Martínez, who is one of the members of the Cuba national baseball team that will attend the America Cup of the discipline.

The native of the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba noted that hard work and sacrifice are fundamental in his sports career, which is rewarded with his presence on the national team.

Paqui, the nickname by which he is known throughout the island, expressed that he feels very excited to be part of the team from the largest of the Antilles in recognition of his performance in recent seasons.

"I am willing to contribute in the role designated to me by coach Germán Mesa and the coaching staff," said the athlete, who is distinguished by his left-handed batting with a mix of power and good touch.

"The chemistry with my teammates and the group has been very good; I know some from the National Series, and I have played with others in lower categories and Cuba B selections," he said.

According to the athlete, sharing the team with his teammates in the Avispas, Raider Sánchez and Yoelkis Guibert, is a source of pride since they have the responsibility to uphold the legacy of Santiago players in Cuba.

The outfielder, a member of the Avispas in the domestic baseball league, specified that despite having gone several days without playing due to Hurricane Melissa passing through his province, he is currently focusing on timing his swings and improving pitch recognition.

Martínez is currently training at the Victoria de Girón stadium in the Cuban province of Matanzas alongside his teammates to refine details ahead of the tournament to be held in Panama from November 13 to 22.
