UN condemns massacre in Sudan refugee camp

Dec. - The United Nations (UN) reported that Sudanese paramilitaries killed nearly one thousand people during a three-day attack on the Zamzam refugee camp last April, according to local media.

The details were revealed in a report published by the top international body outlining the actions of the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against the Zamzam camp, located in the Darfur region.

According to sources, the RSF attacked the camp as part of their siege of El Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur state.

Zamzam is considered the largest displaced persons camp in Sudan, which sheltered about 500,000 people before the April attacks.

Since mid-April 2023, this African nation has been engulfed in an internal war, after power struggles intensified between the head of the Army, Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, and the leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The fighting has already destroyed countless livelihoods, plunging the country into a complex spiral of hunger and deaths.
