Higher Education will begin the new academic year with decentralized processes and teaching activities from the territories

Havana, Aug 20.- Cuban Higher Education resumes its activities and the 2026-2027 academic year will begin on the upcoming September 1st in all universities and institutions across the country, including those belonging to other training organizations.

This process will take place amidst a national scenario marked by the worsening fuel shortage in the country, caused by the aggressive policy sustained by the United States government against the people of Cuba, which is causing a reinforcement of the energy, financial, and economic blockade.

Faced with this reality, the Higher Education system has restructured its functioning, supported by decentralization and a territorial approach; therefore, teaching activities will essentially follow the academic organization applied in the previous semester.

In the specific case of universities subordinate to the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), the enrollment processes for incoming students, as well as the re-enrollment and ratification of enrollment for continuing students, will be organized from the youths' places of residence. Students in national or regional programs may formalize their procedures at the university or at the Municipal University Centers (CUM) and Municipal University Branches (FUM) of their province or municipality, either in person or online.

The training process will be carried out in blended and distance learning modalities, always alternating, whenever possible, some periods of in-person attendance, primarily for daytime course students. In-person teaching activities will take place at the central headquarters of each university, at the CUM, FUM, and/or productive or service entities of each locality.

In the case of the meeting-based course (CPE), for both higher technician programs and university degrees, in-person meetings will resume at least once a month to guide and evaluate learning tasks. Likewise, for the distance course (CaD), its usual conception will be maintained.

As part of their comprehensive training process, students will participate actively in the socio-economic tasks of their municipalities and communities, with special emphasis on the Community Youth Network.

The Ministry of Higher Education reaffirms to families the full confidence that pedagogical and organizational measures have been adopted so that young people can progress and graduate successfully.

We exhort the entire university community to stay informed through the official channels, websites, and social media profiles of their respective universities and the CUM and FUM of their territory, where the organizational details for each locality will be published.

With the conviction that the preparation of professionals is the guarantee for the country's future, Higher Education reaffirms its commitment to the Revolution and to the comprehensive training that Cuba needs.
