Colombian Rock Band Kraken to Perform Today in Havana

Havana, Dec. 6 – The Colombian rock band Kraken will perform today on the bustling 23rd Street, at the corner of 12th, in Vedado, Havana, as part of the side events of the 46th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema of Havana.

This Saturday’s concert, open to the public free of charge, will start at 10:00 p.m. local time, and comes following the widespread popularity of the veteran heavy metal group in their home country and their public interest in performing in Cuba.

Kraken’s presence in Havana was preceded by the screening the previous evening at Casa de Las Américas of the documentary El Titán, based on the life and work of musician Elkin Ramírez, singer, songwriter, and leader of the band.

Through a compilation of archival materials, the film brings viewers closer to the intimate life of Ramírez, who led the iconic group for 32 years, and whose legacy served as inspiration for other artists of the genre, both in Colombia and across the continent.

Kraken was founded in Medellín in June 1984. Throughout their career, the band gained great popularity in Colombia during the 1980s, and their influence extended to other Latin American countries such as Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela, and Ecuador, as well as performing in the United States.
