Mexico City, December 7 — The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) concluded today in that city in the Mexican state of Jalisco, after welcoming more than 953,000 attendees in an edition dedicated to Barcelona.
According to the event director, Marisol Schulz, the FIL, considered the most important event of its kind in the Spanish-speaking world, presented the public with more than three thousand activities over nine days, including awards, tributes, talks, discussions, and readings.
Nearly a thousand authors participated in 648 book presentations, the organizers reported, highlighting that within 43,000 square meters of exhibition space at Expo Guadalajara, there were 2,790 publishing houses from around 60 countries.
The event also featured distinguished guests, including the Franco-Lebanese writer Amin Maalouf, recipient of the 2025 FIL Prize for Literature in Romance Languages; the Guatemalan Rigoberta Menchú, Nobel Peace Prize laureate; and the Spanish singer and songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat.
The fair, inaugurated on November 29, will feature Italy as the guest country of honor next year.
