Women are called upon to perform breast self-examinations

Guáimaro, Apr 14.- In Guáimaro, breast cancer prevails in women over 65 and in females between the ages of 25 and 59; while among young women aged 19 to 24, few cases of this type are reported.

Among the main risk factors, the following stand out: family history of the disease, early onset of menstruation, late menopause, obesity, alcoholism, among others.

Gynecology and Obstetrics specialists residing in the territory highlighted to the local press the need to perform systematic breast self-examinations to detect nodules in time, and to immediately seek the nearest health services to undergo the corresponding tests and treatments.

According to statistics, breast cancer is the most frequent neoplasm in females worldwide and constitutes a serious global health problem due to its morbidity and mortality, with approximately 1.5 million new cases each year.

The figures may be even more direct: three out of 10 people in the world suffer from breast cancer, and at least one in eight women will develop this disease during her lifetime, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
