In the context of the six decades since the founding of the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (Insmet), the work of the Camagüey Provincial Meteorological Center, essential for monitoring the vast territory located in the central-eastern region of the country, was recognized with the 60th Anniversary Medal.
A representative of workers from the Camagüey meteorological system, led by Beatriz Martínez Pérez, director of the Camagüey Meteorological Center, participated in the commemorative event held last Sunday in Havana.
They were Yomari Pérez Abraham, Genaro López Hernández, and Rafael Valdés Alberto, who belong to the areas of Climatology, Radars, and Meteorological Station Network, respectively, and have dedicated more than 40 years of experience to these activities within the entity.
In statements to the Cuban News Agency, Martínez Pérez praised the aforementioned award as a very special recognition that honors the work of Insmet agencies in the territories, which are vital to the daily meteorological information that contributes to the national system.
He highlighted the inclusion of those who work at the meteorological stations in the municipalities and at the Meteorological Center, with great effort and dedication.
At the same time, they work as an integrated system with Civil Defense and provincial governments to ensure the protection of the population and economic assets, he emphasized.
The Camagüey Meteorological Center has the great responsibility of acting as an alternate to the Insmet, as it assumes its functions in the event of problems that prevent it from carrying out surveillance, he explained.
Furthermore, amidst so many energy ups and downs, this institution maintains the vitality of an information and communications system that supports services to the province, as well as radar surveillance, since the National Radar Center, one of its branches, is located in this city.
Founded on July 7, 1966, the Camagüey Meteorological Center is preparing to celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. It offers several scientific and state services, including meteorological observation, weather forecasting, radar monitoring, climate and air quality monitoring, information technology and communications, weather modification and renewable energy, and hazard, vulnerability, and risk management.
