Camagüey, November 7.- In the presence of the highest authorities of the Communist Party of Cuba in Camagüey, the Union, the Provincial Health Directorate, and the General Directorate of the “Amalia Simoni Argilagos” Provincial Clinical-Surgical-Teaching Hospital, the provincial act for the start of Health Worker Day was held on November 7.
The ceremony paid tribute to the centenary of Commander Fidel Castro Ruz and the anniversary of the birth of Manuel “Piti” Fajardo, to be commemorated on November 8.
The event, held in the protocol hall of the Amalia Simoni Hospital, featured the participation of Dr. Jenri Puentes Rodríguez, an official from the Provincial Committee of the Party responsible for social affairs; MsC Milagros Margarita Guerra Cruz, General Secretary of the Provincial Health Workers Union; and Yoanne Fonseca Rodríguez, acting director and deputy director of Medical Assistance.
Party leaders and union representatives also attended. During the event, the “Manuel Piti Fajardo” distinction was awarded to workers with over 20 and 25 years of uninterrupted service. The recognition highlighted the dedication, commitment, and revolutionary spirit of those who uphold the vitality of the Cuban healthcare system through their example. Licensed Rafaela Castro Rondón, secretary of the union bureau at the institution, received recognition from the provincial union “Dr. Carlos J. Finlay,” awarded to those who stand out in labor movement activities.
In her keynote speech, MsC Milagros Margarita Guerra Cruz called for unity, professionalism, and defense of Fidel's legacy as she launched the day. She emphasized the impact of his thought on the Cuban healthcare system: “Fidel is in every area of health, in every medical brigade, in every gesture of solidarity. His legacy lives on in our daily practice.”
The event, which will extend until January 15, Cuban Science Day, will take place under the slogan “Fidel Among Us.” It will include activities for recognition, professional development, health promotion, and strengthening communication with patients. Amidst the intensification of the blockade and campaigns against international medical cooperation, the sector reaffirms its commitment to sovereignty, solidarity, and excellence in services. Thus began in Camagüey a day that honors the vocation, dedication, and living history of those who care for the health of the people.
