In accordance with the measures planned for the current cyclone alert phase, the Food Subgroup of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP) is coordinating supplies to maintain vital services for the population.
Reynaldo Aguilar Cruz, head of the aforementioned work team, explained to Radio Cadena Agramonte that food is guaranteed in all protection centers, hospitals and children's centers with the delivery of bread and milk in the next three days.
Regarding the subsidized food basket, he said that 105 tons of rice were received before the ship was safely docked in the port of Havana. The grain is being distributed to all the units in Nuevitas, and, as a decision and strategy of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP), the food was also delivered to consumers in Santa Cruz del Sur.
In the case of the city of Camagüey, the rice was distributed in zones one and two, which correspond to the popular councils Lenin-Albaisa and Guernica-Puerto Príncipe, respectively.
They completed the production of one pound of sugar in the territory corresponding to the month of October. This product was produced in the municipalities of Guáimaro, Florida, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Vertientes, Najasa, Jimaguayú, and Santa Cruz del Sur.
In the rest of the establishments, work will continue as long as weather conditions allow, and likewise, the wineries will maintain their services.
The seventh round of fruit compote distribution has been completed, and the eighth round has begun in Camagüey, Jimaguayú, and Najasa, based on current inventories. As for powdered milk, the supply is currently at 10 days in the surrounding areas and 15 days in the city of Camagüey.
Fluid milk is distributed without difficulty as long as the weather permits; if it is not processed in the industry, it is delivered directly from the production bases and, if there are problems on some of the routes, it is started on the same the next day.
In addition, eggs are distributed to pregnant women and minced meat for children and medical diets, as well as bread from the regulated family basket, which is delivered twice today due to difficulties in the sector.
With Hurricane Melissa approaching, Reynaldo Aguilar Cruz, head of the Economic Subgroup, urged organization and constant communication to mitigate potential damage from the storm across the country.
