Convinced that sugarcane fields and sugar mills represent Cuba's identity, culture, and tradition, the people of Camagüey celebrated the provincial event for Sugarcane Workers' Day this Sunday.
The Siboney Agroindustrial Company gathered representatives from the industry to honor the men and women who dedicate their lives to such a noble and necessary task for economic development.
Yosvany Chávez Lima, secretary general of the Provincial Sugar Bureau, stated that it is essential to remember the example of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, who always shared with the humble, operated a combine harvester, cut cane shoulder to shoulder, and demonstrated special affection for the workers in the sector.
It is necessary to highlight the daily feats where the main protagonists are the workers of this union, an example of this is this company that after a year of inactivity in its industry carried out an efficient campaign for the production of molasses, exceeded the cane planting plan with its productive units and assumed the enormous responsibility of repairing the mill in 60 days, since the Camagüey sugar harvest 2025-2026 will begin from this site, emphasized Chávez.
At the meeting, the Jesús Suárez Gayol Distinction was awarded to 16 workers representing the 117 laureates from the province.
One of them was Daniela Leyva, a worker at the UBPC La Araucana, who told the Cuban News Agency that this medal is a recognition of more than 35 years of dedicated work and that she will continue working out of pride and commitment.
On this occasion, and for their significant results, the National Vanguard Collective Status was awarded to the Azumat Camagüey Branch, the Agricultural Production Agency, the EsAzúcar Service Company, the Azutecnia Specialized Workshop, and the El Entronque Cooperative Basic Production Unit.
Each harvest and each effort of the sugarcane workers demonstrate their dedication to the task at hand. They are certain that the road ahead will not be easy, but they are dedicated and will go to the next competition under the whistle of the locomotives and the smoke from the tower.
