Havana, December 14 – Cuba today faces an undeniably critical situation with harsh economic performance data, it was reported in this capital during the XI Plenary Session of the Party.
The First Secretary of the Communist Party and President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, at the closing of the event, revealed that “the past months have been characterized by increased financial, oil, and all kinds of persecution against Cuba” by the world’s leading power, the United States.
Directly and without euphemisms, the leader stated that by the end of the third quarter the island “showed, among other unfavorable elements, a decrease in its Gross Domestic Product of over four percent, with soaring inflation and a partially paralyzed economy.”
Facing such a situation, Díaz-Canel called for revolutionary optimism, creativity, and intelligent resistance, but affirmed that “we are supported by reason, moral strength, and a heroic people as our greatest inspiration.” “We face intense work ahead. No one should expect easy or immediate solutions,” he said.
This optimism comes “as we learned in Fidel’s school,” he said, recalling the centenary celebration of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in August 2026.
Cuba needs economic and structural transformations, and also demands a change in mentality regarding the forms and methods of party work, expressed the Head of State.
In his remarks, he acknowledged the growing inequality between small population groups that seem to have all their problems solved, while the majority fails to even meet basic needs.
Nonetheless, the leader reaffirmed social justice as fundamental to the development of the Cuban project and stated that “despite the limitations, health and education will continue to be free and of quality for everyone.”
On another note, the Cuban president described the new National Security Strategy implemented by the United States government as a “blatant sum of the Monroe Doctrine and Roosevelt Corollary, without any disguise.”
Regarding the international scene, he mentioned the recent incident involving a Venezuelan oil tanker, whose cargo was shamelessly seized by Donald Trump’s “pirates.”
Cuba condemns and denounces this return of the gunboat diplomacy, this threatening diplomacy, this outrageous theft, emphasized Díaz-Canel.
He also reiterated the denunciation of the genocidal blockade imposed on the Cuban people and expressed gratitude for the immense support from the international community.
The XI Plenary Session of the Communist Party of Cuba debated important socio-economic and political issues facing the Caribbean nation amid a difficult national and international scenario, in which the call for unity among all Cubans prevailed.
