Holguín, December 3rd — Decorations were awarded today to outstanding health workers from eastern Cuba at the General Calixto García Main Square in Holguín province, as part of the celebrations for Latin American Medicine Day, observed annually on December 3rd.
Among those honored were Iván Rodríguez Terrero from Guantánamo; Rafaela Rondón Castro from Camagüey; and Enrique Pérez Figueredo from Las Tunas, who received the Lázaro Peña Order of First, Second, and Third Degree, respectively, for their work merits and contributions to scientific and social development.
During the event, the Jesús Menéndez Medal was also awarded to nine leading professionals in this field, recognized for their outstanding work within the Central Workers’ Federation of Cuba (CTC).

Yudixa Sarmiento Rodicio, General Secretary of the National Committee of Health Workers, highlighted the heroism and commitment to the health of the people amid economic and care-related challenges.
She pointed out that values such as humanism and solidarity define the work of Cuban doctors both in Cuba and in various parts of the world, where these professionals collaborate during natural disasters, epidemics, and other contingencies.
Even amid the intensification of the United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, she recalled the service vocation inspired by the legacy of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, whose greatest tribute is the daily fulfillment of duty.
As part of the recognitions, the Manuel "Piti" Fajardo Distinction was also awarded for 20 and 25 years of uninterrupted service in the sector, as well as the "85th Anniversary of the CTC" Seal, among other decorations.
